The Manicuring program prepares you for work as a licensed manicurist or nail technician through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on practice. You’ll learn the theory, techniques and professional standards needed to provide nail care services safely, effectively and confidently while preparing for state licensure.
You will learn how to:
- Perform manicuring and pedicuring services
- Understand skin anatomy, nail growth, nail irregularities and nail diseases
- Apply sterilization, sanitation and bacteriology practices
- Maintain tools, equipment and workstations properly
- Perform hand and arm massage techniques
- Provide nail care services including shaping, filing and polishing
- Create nail artistry and decorative nail designs
- Work with nail wraps, sculptured nails, nail tips and gel nails
- Understand product knowledge, ingredients and safe product usage
- Learn salon management, customer service, ethics and state law
- Follow nail safety, EPA and OSHA requirements
- Prepare for the Tennessee state board licensure exam
